Can Dogs Eat Mango?

Safe to eat
In moderation

Yes! Mango flesh is safe and nutritious for dogs, but remove the pit first!

Mango is a delicious tropical fruit that's safe for dogs when prepared properly. The sweet, soft flesh is packed with vitamins and makes a great occasional treat. However, the large pit must always be removed as it contains small amounts of cyanide and poses a serious choking hazard. The skin, while not toxic, can be difficult to digest and should also be removed.

  • Rich in antioxidants for immune health
  • Contains fiber for digestive health

👨‍🍳 How to Prepare Mango for Dogs

Peel the mango completely and remove all flesh from around the large central pit. Cut the flesh into small, bite-sized pieces appropriate for your dog's size. Can be served fresh or frozen for a cooling treat. Some dogs enjoy pureed mango mixed with plain yogurt and frozen. Never give your dog access to the whole fruit with the pit.

Warnings & Precautions

  • ⚠️ALWAYS remove the pit - contains cyanide and is a choking hazard
  • ⚠️Remove the skin as it's hard to digest
  • ⚠️High sugar content - feed sparingly
  • ⚠️Too much can cause diarrhea or stomach upset
  • ⚠️The pit can cause intestinal blockage if swallowed
  • ⚠️Overripe mangoes have higher sugar content

Dogs with diabetes should avoid mango due to high natural sugar content. Overweight dogs should only have very small amounts as an occasional treat. If your dog has a sensitive stomach, introduce very gradually. Never give mango to dogs with pancreatitis due to the sugar content.
